“Gail cares deeply about Rosseau, about Seguin.”
I am running for re-election for a third term of council.
My husband was born and raised in Rosseau, a community that takes care of each other and means the world to both of us. I have been visiting Rosseau since 1977 and we purchased a home on the Shadow River in 1991. We moved to Rosseau permanently in 2008, a move that was always our goal.
I am an active member of the Rosseau and Seguin community and have served on council for 8 years. I will continue to support all ratepayers in Rosseau (ward 6) , community associations, lake associations and all of Seguin Township. I will lead by example and work with council and staff to achieve ongoing goals. I will continue consider the environment and I will continue to listen and respond to constituents, be available full time, and take their concerns seriously. I will work hard keep taxes low through prudent fiscal management. I will continue to protect the lakes and waterways and the environment while responsibly planning the future.
PRIORITIES
COMMUNITY
The community and it's families are always the number one priority. A community where you can live, work and play while protecting the environment, lakes, waterways and beauty of ou small piece of paradise.
HOUSING
Housing is an issue that we are working hard to address. Ontario has redefined 740 acres as Seguin north settlement area for approximately 3000 units of attainable housing.
HEALTH CARE
Health care is an issue for families Ontario wide. We were fortunate enough to get an Ontario Health Team for the West Parry Sound District, thanks to our MPP for advocating on our behalf. This team is working hard to eliiminate the doctor and nurse practitioner waiting lists . We will be getting a new Nurse Practioner led Clinic in Foley. I am honoured to have been chosen to be on the OHT - advisory panel. This will allow me to bring forward issues facing residents in Seguin to the team for discussion.
ROADS/WASTE
Roads in Seguin need a lot of work. Staff worked hard on their Master Plan for roads using studies, public input and put together a plan to bring all Seguin Roads up to proper standards. This is a huge but necessary undertaking and it will take time.
We are having significant issues with our waste stations. Staff is working on their Master Plan and has done studies, public consultation and will continue to work hard on a solution of this issue.
TAXES
Seguin continues to have the lowest tax rate in West Parry Sound. I will continue to strive to keep taxes low through responsible government and prudent fiscal management.
COMMITTEES
DSSAB - District Social Services Administration Board
I have been a board member of the DSSAB for the past 8 years. This board does amazing work for all of the West Parry Sound District. I attend meetings once a month and am always impressed at the work that they do. Being on this board gives me access to services that are provided through out the district. I have been able to refer people to them to get some much needed help and advise.
BELVEDERE HEIGHTS - Long term care
I have been a member of this board for the past 8 years. It is an honour and a privilege to be a part of the board and getting to have lunch with and interact with the seniors while ensuring they are getting the best care possible. Belvedere is in the process of adding 22 long term care beds and will be finished on budget and on time.
RECREATION
Seguin formed a new recreation committee that includes all of Seguin and it seems to be working well. I sit on this committee and will often work the events and help organize them.
TURKEY DINNER I am the volunteer coordinator for the Free annual Turkey dinner in Orrville. I organize approximately 50 to 60 volunteers and work at least two days prior to the dinner to provide lunch for the chefs and decorate the hall. I also work the entire day of the dinner making sure everyone has what they need. It is another one of my favorite events as there is so much joy and laughter in the room.
I regularly help with other events: Pumpkinfest, Easter Bunny Bash, Dog Sled run, Rose Point Trail walk, and many others.
OTHER COMMITTEES
RMH - Rosseau Memorial Hall renovation
I am the Chair of the RMH renovation committee and fought hard to keep this item on agenda. We are now ready to begin Phase 1 of the much needed and deserved renovations. These renovations will allow the community hall in Rosseau to be utilized to the fullest. It will have a historical room that will keep the treasures from Rosseau's past in a safe environment. It will have a full working kitchen on the main floor addition. It will have accessable washrooms that can be accessed from outside, a library and much more.
RCC - Rosseau Caring Community
I am the Chair of the Rosseau Caring Community which is currently partnering with Community Social Services and provides Lunch & Learns for Seguin seniors. We are looking to expand into road trips with seniors and possible card or game nights. This is one of my favorite committees as the seniors are delightful and always happy to go out for a delicious lunch.
OHT - Ontario Health Teams
I have been selected to be on the Ontario Health Teams advisory panel. This panel is designed to have a mix of members from all over the District to represent the community. We can bring our community concerns to the advisory panel for discussion. I am excited to have the honour of being on this committee. I believe it already does have and will continue to have a positive impact on our health care delivery.
